Hawkeye: The Saga of Barton and Bishop
by Matt Fraction
I already owned this as a pair of hardcovers, and I’ve read the story several times. As soon as I saw this, I bought it. There’s something about getting the whole Fraction/Aja/and friends run in a single, affordably priced paperback that really appeals to me. It evokes Alan Moore’s “slab of culture” argument for why comics mattered and why they have lost their cultural influence. Although this provides the skeleton and heart for the recent Disney+ show, so maybe comics are (indirectly) as influential as ever.
Anyway — it’s a delight to sit down with a single volume and enjoy a singular vision of a character that quite honestly I never cared much for before Fraction got hold of him. Read this if you love comics, used to love comics, or are interested in seeing what these “comics” are all about. And buy a copy for a friend.
