Native: Identity, Belonging, and Rediscovering God by Kaitlin B. Curtice

4.0

I read this book with my book club, all of us sharing a Mormon history. It provided helpful starting points for conversations about our own religious history, home, and hope for the future.

At times, I felt frustrated that this book wandered and wasn’t tidy, but now, I think that uncertainty lends itself well to the message of the book. We don’t know everything. We can’t know everything. The world is always changing and we are changing with it. There is no perfect answer for how to hold two contradictory identities. All we can really do is see ourselves and our histories, then try to be better, more loving people who build better, more loving systems.

Think of this book as more of an exploration than explanation.

Curtice does make me want to read some of Rachel Held Evans’ work which I have been recommended and have avoided(religious trauma) for some time.
