The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper

5.0

Wow, I'm impressed! It was refreshing to experience a story set in ancient times without necessarily being a myth retelling. I loved the characters, their backstories and the complexity and ambivalence of feelings inherent to their situation felt so realistic. The dynamics between the women at the brothel were wonderful and I was rooting for Amara the whole time!

Bullet review:
- Fantastic MC
- Ancient Pompei
- Female friendship
- Brothel setting
- Emancipation plot

While this was definitely rich in terms of characters, the plot was not left aside and I was on the edge of my seat. On a side note, I was also very interested in the depiction of sexuality, mores, and relationship to the body in the Roman Empire. The book felt well researched and this helped me feel invested in the setting. The ending was riveting and I am very eager to pick up the sequel!
