Swear on This Life
by Renée Carlino
Really enjoyed this. It was something different and a higher rated read which I feel like I haven’t had in a while. I thoroughly enjoyed the concept of Jackson writing a book for him in her pov. A lot of Boys of Tommen elements to it, I loved their childhood years chapters. The time jumps didn’t bother me as it wasn’t necessarily formatted as dual timeline the way the past time was worked in through being Jackson’s novel was very enjoyable.
Fast paced book and I loved both Jackson and Em. Trevor, Ems boyfriend was like annoying but didn’t bother me too much cause honestly she didn’t care about him and he just kinda did nothing.
I can’t believe Jase and Em didn’t meet in the present time until like over 50% into the book. I wouldn’t stand for that in any other book between love interests but the fact it didn’t bother me in this book shows how good all the other writing was. And when Jackson entered the present timeline his cocky personality and his pining over Em and how he said she was the only one for him had me kicking my feet, loved his behaviour.
This book made me feel all the emotions, the dialogue was funny at times too. And the. The ending her making peace with her father was so sweet and the ending of Jackson’s book with the character dying had me terrified I did think it was foreshadowing that Jackson was sick in real life too but thank his he wasn’t. I also liked that when Em met her mother she was so indifferent towards her because it was realistic that not everything for them worked out with a happy ending.
Also Trevor having a drug addiction and going to rehab and being clean then liking his personal trainer was sweet too. I’m happy he is going to get more out of his life.
The ending was so sweet but my flaw of this book is that they truly only got together in the last few pages and I could’ve read more about their older life together except for just the epilogue.
But overall great read, couldn’t put it down and just what I wanted right now.
