What Feasts at Night
by T. Kingfisher
2.5? Maybe 3 if I reread in October?
One of my most anticipated reads this year but sadly this was not very good. I guess I should have seen it coming since I'm sure the only reason this book exists is due to the success of the first one. You can tell how quickly this was written and how the author didn't quite know what to do with it. It's all over the place. Easton as a character feels like a complete different person from the first book and Eugenia's character felt so irrelevant and out of place here, which made me very sad. It still had some good gory-horror moments because Kingfisher is good at those, and the way in which she talks about war related PTSD was good too, but the plot just doesn't make any sense and the characters are really underdeveloped, perhaps they felt so strong in What Moves the Dead because the author had all the Usher lore behind them to support them, but away from that story they are all lost.
If the series continues I hope she has more time to work on it, maybe retelling another classic would work? Anyway, bad T. Kingfisher is still enjoyable.
