The Distant Echo by Val McDermid
4.0

This is the first Karen Pirie novel and she appears more than halfway through. Her presence is minimal. This is a very long novel. I prefer my crime novels to be around 300 pages or less. This one, however, covers a case in detail when a murder occurs, and the resurrection of the cold case. It has a major twist at the end. I read it before and during a trip to Edinburgh. It is set in St. Andrews and Fife, and I even managed a day trip up there which enhanced my enjoyment of the book. A worthwhile read as long as you are up to almost 600 pages.
