Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher

2.0

I think a lot of people go into this book with wishful thinking. I really like Carrie Fisher most of the time. This is not a pleasant book to read but I don’t think that was the message she was trying to accomplish. This book is all over the place and lacks cohesiveness. It is full of over-the-too, mostly cynical sarcasm. It is not a feel-good book. And, it’s not supposed to be. Fisher was trying to share a glimpse into her life as an addict and the discovery that she was bipolar. It’s not dark, just not pleasant. The writing lacks clarity. But anyone who has lived with someone or as someone with bipolar disorder can probably relate to her story. I give it two stars because I think it lacks the clarity and relatable ness it needs for a true understanding, which is what I’m always looking for in a memoir or autobiography.
