Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

To preface, I am not an intersex person and therefore can’t assess the quality of the writing on intersex experience.
However I really loved this book. I tend to love dynastic stories (for example 100 years of solitude) and this was another beautiful example. I thought certain themes weaved themselves through the generational stories. I thought the plot was moving while still somewhat realistic.
Something I particularly liked was that the narrator/main character was “special” but not unbelievably so. Their intersexuality wasn’t competing with them also being a genius…or an athlete…or some other wunderkind. It was a really restrained and masterful touch that made Cal a more likeable narrator.
