I'm Laughing Because I'm Crying is an engaging memoir about the nuance in life, you can be very happy and very sad at the same time. Instead of a linear 'I did this, then this' style Youngmi Mayer deftly analyses wider social issues of race, class and gender and relates them seamlessly to her own experience growing up in a neglectful, abusive Korean and American household. Mayer is a hilarious self proclaimed hot mess with amazing analytical social and communication skills, a genius storyteller and social commentator.
