Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
4.0
I was so excited to finally read Haymitch's story, and it was a good read! Lots of nostalgia and insight into Haymitch's world, but man, was it SAD. I knew how his story ended from reading the original series, but getting a front row seat to it was so heartbreaking.
I don't want to give any spoilers, so I will keep this vague! It didn't hit 5 stars for me because I found some of the nostalgia pieces/characters to be a bit heavy and maybe a little unrealistic? It felt like a thousand things were trying to be explained in mere sentences without another thought, just for the purpose of connecting it to the original series. Finally, the way the games were carried out was a little lacking and really didn't hold much suspense.
All in all, it's still a great read, and I will read and enjoy anything out of this series. Hopefully, the next ones are the development of the games or the rise of the rebellion and how that all came together between Haymitch's and Katniss/Peeta's games.
