Born of Embers by Quinn Arthurs, Harper Wylde

I have a love-hate relationship with stumbling upon new series on Kindle Unlimited, because you never really know what you're going to get. Some are fabulous, some are terrible. This one was a solid "good", a fun supernatural tale with a likeable and determined heroine and an interesting twist on the traditional romance story arc. I've never picked up a "reverse harem" title before and probably wouldn't go out of my way to seek it out, but in this story it worked.

There are some minimal typos and usage errors that probably wouldn't bother a more casual reader but tend to jump out to me because of my background in journalism and copyediting. But the story was engrossing enough to overlook these minor flaws, and keep me interested enough to pick up the next title in the series... an absolute must, since the first book ends on a cliffhanger (another pet peeve and one that really would have irked me if the second book wasn't already available!). While the second ends on a more resolved note, it left enough unresolved to leave the reader eagerly awaiting book three.
