So maybe you've heard of The Untamed (avaliable on Netflix), or maybe you haven't. Basically it's a Chinese fantasy drama featuring Wei Wuxian's descent into a dark "ghostly" past, the problems that arise out of that and his eventual redemption.
The drama follows the book closely, almost word for word, other than the fact that where the relationship between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji is quite explicit and laid down bare to the bones for you in the book, due to censorship issues in China, the relationship is much more subtle and subtext-y in the drama.
The translation of the novel on exiledrebelsscanlations in almost immaculate (there are a few typos), but it is avaliable for free on their website, so there's really nothing that should stop you from falling into this mystical and unique story.
