exquisite_ashes 's review for:
White Cat
by Holly Black
EDIT// On the reread... I agree with everything I wrote when I read this a decade ago. Enjoyed the audiobook narrator more than expected though.

I'm seriously conflicted about what review to give this book. On the one hand, I like Holly Black and I love the world she's created here - how she's woven the details of it into the story. The premise is interesting... but this book just didn't do anything for me. I was not involved in any of the characters, and I had guessed most of the mysteries by page 40, which meant a long trek through the rest of the slow book. It felt like nothing really happened, though they certainly did. And although I adore the idea of con men getting too involved in their own cons, it was an aspect of Cassel's character that never really felt attached to him. He kept telling me it was too much fun for him, but I didn't believe it. I really wish I had loved this book! I certainly didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite either.
