"The Dead Romantics" by Ashley Poston is an enchanting read that, while not spectacular, captivated me from start to finish. My usual gripe with romance novels is their predictable happy endings. Yet, despite guessing the outcome early on, I found myself anxiously turning pages towards the end, fearing I might be wrong. The angst was definitely there, keeping me engaged until the very last page.
Clichés were present, but they were executed in a way that never felt boring. I particularly enjoyed the scene where the main character punches her ex-boyfriend—satisfying justice! It would have been even better if she had the chance to fully tell her side of the story.
What truly stood out was how Poston handled themes of grief. Her portrayal was heartfelt and added depth to the story, making it more than just a typical romance. This book was thoroughly entertaining and serves as an excellent palate cleanser after more emotionally taxing reads.
Overall, "The Dead Romantics" earns a solid 4.5 stars from me. It's a delightful, engaging novel that I would recommend to anyone looking for a well-crafted romance with a touch of angst and a thoughtful exploration of grief.
