The idea is great, and I thought the world was interesting. I loved the idea of doll-casting and color as currency. The first chapter was amazing.
Unfortunately, I found the characters a bit annoying. I understand Elizabella was in pain, but she didn’t show enough character growth for me to find her less tiresome. Benjamiah views her as a BFF by the end of the book, and I just don’t really get it.
The plot dragged for me after the first few chapters. Since we don’t know Edwid, I didn’t feel invested in their quest to find him.
I think there’s a lot to love about the world-building and writing, it just fell flat for me personally. There were some nice quotes, and I liked the deeper themes of loss.
