An enjoyable return to the world of Charlie Bone but not very satisfying. After Charlie's father had his memory restored in the final pages of the last book you might think he would feature prominently in this one. Instead he is spending time with his wife and a sub-plot about the danger they are in isn't properly resolved.

Quite a few new characters are introduced in this book and we learn about their endowments. One of these is especially nightmare-inducing and Charlie and his friends find themselves in danger on multiple occasions.

We also learn a little more about the Red King, and now the Red Knight. But there isn't really a great deal of plot and, as enjoyable as visits to the Pet Cafe etc are, I am wanted to feel more progress had been made by the end of the book than to keep reading the same events that happen several times in each book.
