The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
by Catherynne M. Valente
My favorite book from my childhood is The Phantom Tollbooth. I reread it once per year because I love the reminder of how important imagination is. I think that "Fairyland" will be entering my rotation of books to reread for a similar reason: I loved how this book reminded me as an adult of the importance of courage, friendship, and - last but not least - magic.
Valente did a beautiful job of creating a different world that references all assumptions we have about Fairyland, while remaining unique.
And I just adored September.
