Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

3.0

Idk why the curious Dickens particularly enamored with orphans!!
My eternal and constant critique is his depiction of general qualities as being absolute in their goodness or evilness, black or white, The grayscale does not exist in his realm.
In general, the novel possesses absolute qualities, fantastical events, and bears no resemblance to real life. However, like other classics, it possesses a tender spirit, with small details and moral lessons that play the splendid ethical role in literature.

I particularly admire the following quotes:

It was tender courage words that Pip expressed his love to Estella with;
"I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be, she have been the embodiment of every graceful fancy that my mind has ever become acquainted with."
..
"Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be."
You can not learn how to empathize with the others without being once in their shoes.
...
"Take nothing on its looks; take everything on evidence. There's no better rule."
