Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

4.0

Wow, this was probably the most satisfying ending to any book I've ever read. The last hour or so of the audiobook was fantastic. I could not put it down, even though I really had things to do.

The book has smart commentary on class, white feminism, and beneficent racism. The paternalism all the white characters display toward our protagonist, Emira, is cringe inducing and ominous. And the love Emira feels for Briar is so bittersweet. Somehow, with all the heavy topics, the book is a fun and light read. I want to see this book made into a movie by A24, with Alix Chamberlain played by Caitlin Reilly.
