I didn’t know what I was getting into with this one. The synopsis didn’t reveal too much about what was going on and I tended to question the direction the book was headed. Well, by the end I was dead wrong.
I think I came into this expecting more horror elements, but by the end it felt like an intro to horror. What I stayed for was the gothic tone. The atmosphere was dripping with gothic details. Add to the setting being in Mexico with themes of colonialism and I was sold.
