This book follows one man's unplanned extended stay on Mars and his attempts to survive being left behind with only disco music.

I had originally watched the Matt Damon movie based on this book and loved it! I got so excited when I found out there was a whole book-load of content just waiting for me to read. The book is honestly what you expect from the movie, though the science is more in depth though is well explained to an understandable level. While there is a lot of science (yay for me) it also doesn't feel like it would be too much, even for someone unfamiliar with a lot of the science involved. Weir does an excellent job of dumbing down the science without making it feel dumb or too simple for the well trained character Watney is supposed to be. It made sense when I learnt what a nerd Weir is when it comes to all things space.
The book mostly takes place from Watney's (our lost boy main character) perspective, only switching to NASA and other related characters when needed. It never felt too jarring or uninteresting with any switch in location, if anything I'd love to see more of the other characters but this isn't their book!
I loved the humour, I loved the pacing, I loved that poor Watney never could catch a break.

It was such a fun and action packed read! I'd honestly recommend it to anyone looking for a new read.
