The Naming by Alison Croggon

3.5

[7/10]

I deeply enjoyed this book. The story was compelling, and felt like a refreshing take on a lot of tried and true fantasy tropes.

I loved the rich detail of the world-building and the narration really painted pictures in my mind, though I will admit sometimes I found myself skimming paragraphs describing the setting when I was anxious to get to the next important plot point.

The protagonist is fascinating. I found myself stepping easily alongside her in the book's emotional journey, and wanting her to succeed even when I wasn't exactly sure what consequences her success might incur.

I thought about this world and this tale for a long time after I put this first installment down.
