jbartak 's review for:
The Sound and the Fury
by William Faulkner
It took a while, but I feel satisfied to have finished this novel. Faulkner's magnum opus is by far the most challenging book I have read. I won't claim to understand every single complex theme, but what resonated with me the most was the juxtaposition of the Compson family implosion and the town of Jefferson.
The last chapter was the most compelling; it showed the monotony of the town on Easter. Everyone going to church, the show traveling from village to village. Jason's blind rage collides with the slow pace of the rest of Jefferson. Life goes on with or without the Compson name.
One day I hope the rest of the richness of the novel hits me, and I think it will as I reflect more.
