I REALLY wanted to like and enjoy this book, but the thought of the genre being middle grade with the heaviness of the topics discussed in the story made me feel weird. It was hard for me as an young trans adult to read about these trans teens being misgendered and going to Save Our Sons and Daughters meetings to “fix” their gender identities.
However, I love any sort of mythology being used in books, and I’ve never read about Jewish mythology, so learning about that was fascinating. Truly, I wish the characters were a bit older and it was geared towards a young adult audience to dive deeper into how evil the sheyd could be.
Also, what was up with the main character talking about pissing so much 😭
