Among Thieves
by Douglas Hulick
I like it. It's not the best book ever, but it is entertaining and I really liked diving into this world.
The story is entertaining and had a major plottwist (and some other smaller ones) I haven't seen coming. I like how everything comes together and what it does to everyone and how everyone is reacting. Also, the worldbuilding is interesting and I hope that we get more of it in the next part (Angels instead of God(s), the Emperor and everything about him, the Kin, the night vision, the magic and so on).
I really like Drothe. He isn't a good guy per se (on the contrary, the first time we meet him he is letting someone being tortured to death because they stole something from him) but there are some hints that show, that in some regards his heart is at the right place (Cosima and her family, the way he thought about what to do with the book and how he felt afterwards and so on). I really like his friendship with Bronze Degan (*sobs*) and in some way they reminded me of a more brutal, violent and ruthless version of Locke and Jean - even though the story is nothing like in the Locke Lamora books. And maybe, I just want to be reminded of them and am reading too much into it. /o\
The cast of supporting characters is also good and I'm very curious about some of them (Christiana, Jemel, Kells).
One thing this book doesn't neglect is the H/C. ♥ And that falling down stairs hurt and that you'll have bruises and move a bit stifly for a while. ♥
Looking forward to the next part. :)
