An excellent memoir/story/cultural portrait all tied to Black hair. So much of other parts of life happen within or around the styling and setting of hair. It gave me insight into a culture of women I haven't had much access to. I am touched and educated all the way through, as I see interactions within and outside of the Black culture so often revolving around hair - what is in fashion, touching hair you shouldn't, the time it takes to curl, soften, take care of Black hair. And what's more it's beautiful to look at. I am more aware because of it.
