The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
2.0
challenging dark emotional reflective sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

this one is complicated. emotionally speaking, yes, my heart strings were tugged at. but the thing is, when you come from a place of understanding of the condition of hazaras, afghan migrants and the class & ethnic dynamics in afghanistan, hosseini's writing starts to become unbearable. amir is terribly sorry for himself throughout the whole novel and while western readers may love this novel, from an afghan pov this is terrible and blatantly pro western intervention.
