The Fowl Twins by Eoin Colfer

2.0

I was excited to find out that there is a new series in the Fowl universe. While I did enjoy this book I felt it really suffered from not having Artemis and Holly, or any of the other characters that made the first series so good. While the new characters were fun, they were not up to the standard set by the originals. To me Lazuli started off odd, but I soon began to like her quite a lot (even though she's still no Holly). It is interesting to learn about more of the faerie species and crossbreeds. Beckett is kind of childish which seems odd from a Fowl, but he ended up being my favourite character. Myles is clearly supposed to be the Artemis replacement. He started off annoying but by the end of the book I really disliked his character. If it wasn't for Beckett and Lazuli saving the series I might not consider reading the rest of the series when it's released.
The humour was very hit and miss throughout. The fact that the villain was called Bleedham-drye was annoying and I cringed every time I had to read it. I did like the little nods to things such as Lazuli being a diversity hire.
Overall, I was a little disappointed by this book. I am still intrigued enough to read the next one to see where Colfer is going to take this series. But after that I will have to decide whether I will be continuing with the series.
