I loved seeing the representation of two sapphic SEA, specifically Vietnamese, characters. There was a sweet and light touch to topics that normally feel so heavy, like war, death, and immigration.
The YA voice was very present and I consistently felt like there wasn't enough fleshing out of the characters or their big scenes/character building moments. It all moved too fast and all the conflict felt resolved too easily. It was also a little weird and uncomfortable howViVi projected her desires onto an internet stranger as a reader of Lan's blog, and was rewarded for it.
Overall, I don't think the emotional beats were impactful for me because of the pacing and telling of the story
