You would hardly know this book is twenty years old.  I loved Amy Koppelman's moment-to-moment, almost stream of consciousness writing style, the beats within chapters.  As Julie drowns in postpartum depression, she contemplates her own upbringing, her parents' long-overdue separation, the feeling of having been abandoned, and most importantly, the choking pressure of motherhood and expectations.
