METRO 2035 by Dmitry Glukhovsky
4.0
I really enjoyed this series, it’s dark and I think an accurate portrayal of humanity. “Metro Exodus” gave us the story we wanted, full of adventure outside the Metro, exploring the world and the different peoples who live on the surface. I was surprised to find 2035 was absolutely nothing like the video game. Rather than giving the audience the story we wanted, it gives us the story we deserve. The story of what would really happen in that situation. The only downside I found was that, in the English version at least, there are quite a few spelling and grammatical errors that make reading a bit difficult, not to mention the style of writing sometimes caused me to become confused as to who was speaking. The author opts not to identify speakers in extended conversations and sometimes just throws in a third party speaker with no warning, further confusing the narrative. In particular, chapter 14 entitled “Strangers” was a tough read as it’s entirely made up of conversation with little to no context. Besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed the series!
