Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson
5.0
I heard Mr. Stevenson speak at a Haverford graduation ceremony and was immediately impressed. His book is nearly as compelling. It collects several stories of individuals for whom he has worked, and one story is threaded through the entire work, to provide a sense of overall narrative. The issues are real, but he avoids sounding too preachy. He uses statistics, but never too many. What I found most intriguing was his ability to use "church words" like mercy, compassion, and brokenness, in a non-church setting, and use those words effectively. It is the sort of thing to which I aspire as well.
