FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven

5.0

I dove into FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven with a brief idea of what the book was about. I had seen a Sydney Books recommend this title and I knew I had to read it! As per usual, she is never wrong! Shoutout to Sydney Books (love her recs)! It's been a while since I can honestly say that a book has had me hooked since the very beginning. I loved that the mood was set right from the beginning. But I was hooked.

I enjoyed how the story was presented from a multiple-point-of-view kind of interview/fact-finding perspective. It put me in mind of mentally watching an episode of Yellow Jackets, with some Lord of the Flies vibes taking place in an amusement park, with a tsp of Hunger Games, presented as a dramatized investigative documentary (but really GOOD). While that may not be everyone's cup of tea. It was mine!

Throughout the book you keep hearing characters say "A Pirate never quits"
I can't speak for the pirates lol, but the craziness definitely didn't stop in this book. I'm not gonna lie there were a few times I had to stop and take a break because a few events were a bit much for me. I know this could be a deterrent for some, so I do recommend researching the TWs.

With that said... I give this book...this BANGER..... 5 stars!
The realism behind the events that took place.....The psychological breakdown of each individual and the people in the scenarios that are discussed, as well as just what happened and how we know that things like this have and can happen with disaster strikes (and there's no help)! I just loved it all. Before writing my review I did see some other reviewers say the book was "overdone" or "not believable". I could understand why someone would say /feel this way about the book. However, I don't think I agree. I think Mr. Bockoven did a great job setting the mood, telling the story, stirring emotion in the reader, and painting a mental picture all while presenting the book in a way that I don't think many of us are used to.
I loved it! 5 stars!
