Revenge Cake
by Skyler Mason
I don’t know if I loved this book because I’m coming off of a book rut and this book was the “something different” I was craving but it sucked me in from page one. I read it in one sitting despite being in such a bad funk that I’d picked up and put down three books before this, so it could not have come at a better time...
Let me start this off by saying, this book won’t be for everyone. This book realistically depicts the ugly side of some relationships and people. The characters are flawed. Leilani can be mean and vengeful. Logan is a serial dater and does some shitty things. So if you are only looking for rainbows and butterflies, this won’t be for you. With that said, let’s get to the review.
The same reason why I think a lot of people will hate these characters, is the same reasons why I loved them even while disliking them. These characters are REAL.
We’ve all had those moments in our lives where we said and did certain things we regretted, where we hurt someone we cared about, where we let the spite take over because we were hurting and wanted to hurt back, where we looked at the one we loved and for a brief moment hated them ...allowed distance to grow as we stopped communicating and being intimate, mourned the loss of the relationship while still together... or maybe that’s just me ;) but I appreciate the representation and depiction of that side of love/relationships none the less. And that’s not me trying to romanticize...just nice to see a different side.
