I probably liked this one better than the first novel, even though it has a lot more things that irk me (instalove being top of the list). It also feels far too short. Kimberly Lemming has created a farcical fantasy world - think the D&D movie, rather than something like LotR - and it works a bit better here. The tone and ridiculousness is more even. Overall, it’s written better.

But we really don’t get that much deep characterization from Brie or Felix, nor do they grow in any particular way. The ending is very rushed as well.

I’ve heard the third book in the series is the best, so I’ll continue, but this is just overall very, very frothy.
