Circe by Madeline Miller

5.0

This has become one of my favourite reads this year. This book is amazing and it deserves all the praise it gets and more. I fell in love with Circe (and I already liked her before!) and her story, told from this POV.

The way the author picks up the story and manages to transform it and to tell it so intimately and deeply is so beautiful. She gets us to relate to Circe and her struggles, her pains and her griefs. And the way the island of Circe is described, my gods, is beautiful. For me, it's a dream (but without solitary exile, of course!). The house, Circe's craft, is simply wonderful.

This book is an authentic journey in time, in myths and in history. It is a panoply of sensations, feelings and experience which is simply unforgettable.

The writing is quite adult, very different from the type of writing I have seen concerning books of Greek mythology (Percy Jackson, etc. - Which I love but this is a different kind of literature. It is not YA/MG). The writing is quite mature and developed and provides another kind of reading experience.

About he portrait of the Gods, for someone pagan such as myself... I do not consider that it is bad. It is a crude and sincere vision, faithful to many of the classical representations of the deities and with fewer human characteristics than those attributed to them today which is not bad. It's different.

This book is a book that I heartily recommend to all who like Greek mythology.

SpoilerTHAT ENDING THOUGH. <3
