Tell Me I'm Worthless by Alison Rumfitt

1.0

let me preface this by saying to anyone wishing to read this - TAKE THE TRIGGER WARNINGS SERIOUSLY!!!

I originally DNF yes, but stuck out the last hundreds so pages. Was it worth it? Kind of. The first half was horrendous. The characters were unlikable no discernible plot for over 100 pages and you expect me to read through it? I was promised a dark trans horror, and I got that in what I think was the worst execution ever made. alcohol consumption? fine. the drugs? okay. the graphic depictions of sexual assault? maybe not. The author doesn’t specify what truly happened and if you’re if not the two main characters of raped each other which I think was not good because why would you write a character you expect me to root for and then have the nagging question in my mind, if or if not they’re a rapist?

I have to say that the flashback scene to win the three girls first went into the house was one of the best written horror passages I’ve ever read. Nearly made me change my rating back to 5 stars, but the ending just made me want to kms.

Overall, I don’t think I was the target audience for this book, but the big thing that’s really nagging me is that felt very much like it was trying to be edgy. The first part of the book when the two characters haven’t met up yet, just felt like it was too forced. This was really disappointing because I was so excited for the read.
