Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
The reason I picked up this book was because I saw it in a list of books noted for their “sexual tension.” As a romantic and avid fan of the slow burn, I thought I’d give it a try.
Perhaps it’s because I’m not a teenager anymore, but I personally wasn’t very invested in the story or it’s characters. I don’t mean that it was a bad story, there were certainly twists and turns that kept me guessing until the climax of the plot. I just think this book would be more enjoyable for someone who is still in their high school years with imaginations that could run away with this story properly. I am just not the target audience, and that’s ok.
I will say, while reading this book I was given pleasant reminders of my own youth. I can’t say I ever went to billiards rooms or spent late nights at the library with friends, but Hush Hush did invoke a nostalgia for when the concept of that kind of independence - sometimes at the expense of parental guardians - was fresh and sexy.
If you’re post college, this book might not be for you. But teenagers? Revel in the mystery, the rebellion, the conflict of the heart vs the mind. I hope you enjoy it.
