The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

This book got me. It's been a long time since I read a book that has made me cry, but this book accomplished that more than once. Really gut-wrenching, but with the subject matter (life in France during the German occupation in WWII) I suppose I should have expected that.

I'll be honest, historical fiction is not my thing. I don't tend to read it and I definitely don't seek it out. This book was a BOM for a group I'm in and I decided to give it a shot. I'm really glad that I did. I started out not really liking it, but, as the story developed and the characters grew, I found myself getting sucked into their story. It's fiction, I know, but I also know that people actually suffered similar atrocities during that war. This book just made it hit home rather hard.

This book makes me consider changing my position on historical fiction. Really great book.
