Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
4.0
emotional reflective

Would I have received this book differently if I was Frances’s age instead of “the older couple?”

I don’t see Frances’s actions as bad, or her as a bad person, nor do I want to chalk it up to just “youth being youth.”

I could see parts of myself in her, mostly guilt and shame and shying away from vulnerability, which is not age-specific. I know 40yr olds who are this messy.

I picked this book up because I was feeling a bit down and wanted to lose myself in the mess of someone else’s life, but instead of judging sneeringly, Sally Rooney wins me over and just shows this is the messiness of love. Loving yourself, loving another - and honestly it’s gorgeous.
