Damn I loved this book. Hornby pulls no punches in his characterization of Rob as a miserable, insecure jerk, and yet I found myself relating to him time and time again, much to my annoyance. Even though I hated him at times, the fact that I could see so many of my own negative traits reflected in him made his development throughout the novel all the more touching. The main character/narrator’s voice shifts slowly and almost imperceptibly over the course of the novel, and by the end it’s hard to believe he’s the same person from the beginning.  Really funny and cynical, yet ultimately hopeful  story about adulthood, relationships, and figuring out how to live a happy life.
