Acevedo has always had a knack for making you love and connect to her characters and Emoni is no different, you empathise with her struggle, root for her successes, and understand her hard choices. Spotlighting a teen mom perspective and honouring what that means for a young woman (especially a woman of colour) makes this book really special, and Acevedo always finds a way to keep her books hopeful and heartwarming - this book specifically doing this through Emoni's connection to food. I loved this, and the constant recipes had me starving, another Acevedo book that I've adored so far!
