I tried really hard not to like this book, trust me I did. I usually avoid mafia romances like I avoid chlamydia - since there is nothing to romanticize about the suffering mafia causes thousands of people every year - but this popped on my TikTok and I'm a sucker for a good forbidden romance :( the internal struggle is real here.
I really liked how Angelo (as an Italian myself, this name made me laugh out loud every single time. no sexy man is ever named Angelo - ever.) was portrayed as a vicious and evil person but not crazy. If there's one thing I find boring in dark romances is when the cruelty of the mmc boils down to their mental health being non existent. I liked how the world was opened and how so many different threads were laid down for the author to pick back up in future books so yeah i'll probably read more.
I knocked one star off due to the fact that it still is a mafia romance and I can't really get over the ick that the fact causes but all in all I enjoyed it a lot. The smut is chefs kiss.
