After finishing The Honjin Murders, I decided to explore more of Seishi Yokomizo's works, and this book proved to be just as impressive. It is incredibly exciting, with characters and relationships that are deeply captivating. The way the tension was skillfully built kept me on edge, and the cruelty of the situations was conveyed without descending into bloodiness or grotesque details, which I found refreshing. Yokomizo has a unique talent for creating suspense that feels both intense and tasteful.

From the start, I had a sense of who the killer might be and who the suspicious characters were, but I only guessed one correctly. As I read, I often wondered if there was really any way to solve the mystery. The plot seemed like the perfect murder plan, meticulously thought out to leave no trace. Yet, Kosuke Kindaichi masterfully unraveled the mystery, piecing together the missing elements with brilliant detective work. It took me a while to get into the book, but once it hooked me, I couldn't put it down. Each twist and turn kept me eagerly turning the pages.

Reading the last chapter gave me goosebumps as it revealed the intricate plan behind the murders. I was particularly surprised to discover that each murder was somehow connected with haikus, adding a layer of poetic intrigue to the story. This discovery only increased my eagerness to explore more of Seishi Yokomizo's books. His books always offer unexpected twists that keep you guessing until the very end, providing revelations that you didn't even expect. Yokomizo's ability to weave complex plots with deep emotional undertones makes his work truly stand out in the genre.
