Inferno by Dan Brown

2.0

This is a hard book to review because it was very more-ish and there's a fair bit to enjoy about it. However, the writing is very basic. If this was a book in the YA genre, I think I'd give it 4 stars, but since it's aimed at an adult audience, it gets 2 from me.

Dan Brown doesn't give his readers any credit to be able to think for themselves or infer any subtext. He spells absolutely everything out for us and it feels so dumbed-down to the point of condescension.

The ending really pissed me off too as it's so neatly wrapped in a bow in a way that no real life situations are, especially ones dealing with such complex themes as this.

The subject matter is worthwhile, and I'm glad that a populist author like Dan Brown chose to tackle the over-population crisis. I would have hoped that it would have made some waves, but unfortunately not.

I'm not sorry I read it, it was enjoyable and not a waste of my time, but some of my time was spent slightly meanly laughing at it because of how dumb it was and how little it expects of its readers.
