Brain over Binge: Why I Was Bulimic, Why Conventional Therapy Didn't Work, and How I Recovered for Good by Kathryn Hansen

1.0

I fluctuated between giving this 1/2* but decided on 1 because it's kind of laughably bad. Yes, in principle, "just stop" is the solution. But like... (y)(y) *crying* *sad harold meme* that doesn't... help... me? lol. I'm not even angry I'm just bewildered. I think I commented on another review saying the book gave me major r/thanksimcured vibes because ... you know, if one could just stop... yeah :/

A few salient points (lol):
1) NOT recommended for anyone dealing with complex trauma. The author is basically like 'I had no trauma I had no low self-esteem I had no emotional issues I had nothing I could pinpoint as "reasons", so doing therapy gave me "excuses" to continue bingeing. So my thoughts = if you are one of those who DO have a "legitimate reason" let's say for your destructive behaviour, this book is not the one for you lmao *crying in walmart*

2) If you dislike "boomer" narratives of like... "it's all willpower", "stop playing the victim", "triggers aren't real", "my parents locked me in the basement and I turned out fine" (ok that last one is a joke ahaa) then this is going to rub you up the wrong way.

ok imma head out lmao hope this was entertaining (:
