The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

4.0

Wow. the author of this book must have superpowers or something because HOW did he manage to keep track of all of the timelines and characters??

I liked this, but the execution didn’t quite live up to the premise in all of the ways I wanted. It’s almost like the mystery and murders weren’t as cool as the reason for the mystery and murders, if that makes sense? I wanted more from the conflict, outside of the whole switching bodies thing. If the character wasn’t waking up in new bodies every day the mystery wouldn’t have been that interesting, and so that made the final reveal feel somewhat underwhelming.

But despite that, I have to obviously commend the prison time loop parts. I lowkey am still having trouble processing everything, but it was incredibly unique and I don’t think anyone can say anything different.

Anyway, this was a fun read, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the ending. I didn’t think this was gonna be the kind of book that would leave me satisfied, but it did.
