We Solve Murders by Richard Osman
2.0

DNF.

The Thursday Murder Club books are a throwback to the old-style Ealing comedy films: the characters are sometimes close to caricature, their imagined histories often verge on the preposterous, and the mystery plots can be somewhat lame. It all works, because it's written with such affection and it's so quintessentially English.

Osman has taken the same ingredients (caricature characters, preposterous backstories and lame plot), and applied them to a Jack Reacher story. The affection has gone, except perhaps for one character (Steve). The wit has largely gone, replaced by slapstick and the odd dry observation. It doesn't work.
