Oh my. I’ve been reading this book since 2016. It’s definitely about time I finally finished it. I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book. I still very much enjoyed it but I don’t know how to feel about parts of the end.

Doon became one of my favourite series in 2016 but while it is still something I will always love, I think it might be a bit young for me now. I adored this series in middle school (I am now 19 and graduated for reference) and had I read it then, it easily would’ve gotten five stars. However, I still love this series and it will always be special to me.

Doon is such a fun series to return to. I reread the first two books this summer and had such a fun time falling in love with the series again. This book has been on my TBR for too long and has been in way too many TBR videos but I loved it all the same. We are once again reunited with the characters in this magical kingdom and you can’t not have fun reading about their lives, especially if you’ve gotten this far in the series.

The characters are definitely my favourite part of the book. I’m definitely more of a Duncan and Mackenna fan but I think Jamie and Veronica are pretty cute as well. I also love the friendship between Mackenna and Veronica and how they share a brain. I wish there were more books out there that showcased strong female friendships like this.

Doon is also such a magical kingdom and I love how well the authors have crafted it. It makes you wish some Scottish prince was calling to you so you could escape there. Overall these books are just a good time. The characters are amazing and the romance will put a smile on your face.

I’m trying my best not to spoil it but I did like where the plot went in this book. It was interesting to see the Prince’s experience some new things and also just see the couples just be happy together.

I think the ending was great but I did have issues with the big reveal twist as I saw it coming pretty easily. It’s hard for a book or a twist in general to shock me but one of my issues with this twist was that I read it before. And yes, obviously people write similar twists but this issue here is we’d already seen this twist in the first book just with a different character (and both times I predicted it correctly). I just wish this twist hadn’t been reused but otherwise the ending did leave me intrigued on how this whole series will wrap up in the end.

I’m excited to get around to the last book soon but I also never want to let this series go. 💞
