The Playboy
by Marni Mann
3.5 stars.
The Playboy is the first book in The Spade Hotel series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Macon had been in a serious relationship, but his girlfriend didn’t feel the same way. She broke his heart, and he decided to just sleep around, never forming any attachments. But when he goes to a club, he sees a woman who captures his attention, and he can’t get her out of his head.
It was love at first sight for Macon, but the mystery woman, Brooklyn, didn’t give in so easily. He had to work to convince her to give him a chance, but he was very persistent.
Brooklyn was a great character. She was strong and independent; she was a student and working so she could pay for her share of rent, groceries, etc. The whole thing where she was living in Kauaʻi and how it was so expensive – one hundred percent accurate.
I was a little mad at Macon’s reaction to Brooklyn’s secret, because he just wasn’t seeing things from her point of view. He also had a secret he was keeping, and he didn’t tell her, but he expected her not to be mad.
Anyway, they did have great chemistry, and I loved how Brooklyn always made him work for it.
